High blood pressure is often called the silent killer because it usually doesn't have present symptoms but that doesn't mean that there aren't warning signs that you should be aware of. Of course, it's not hard to get your blood pressure checked, and everyone should do this, whether or not you have any symptoms. Here are a few of the main indicators and symptoms of high blood pressure.

A common symptom of high blood pressure is frequent nosebleeds.

Those with frequent nose bleeds could have other problems that are not related to their blood pressure, but it is still worth checking into. Really a nosebleed is only a concern if it happens regularly. While anyone with hypertension can suffer from frequent nosebleeds, most commonly it occurs in those who are elderly. Your blood pressure could be at dangerously high levels and need to be controlled if you are getting nose bleeds caused by high blood pressure.

If you have a stressful life and are easily made angry or frustrated, you may be at risk for high blood pressure even if you have no other obvious symptoms. It has been found that people who fit the Type A personality profile are more likely than average to have high blood pressure, as well as heart disease. Stress, then, can be considered one of the early warning signs of high blood pressure. Even if your job or lifestyle tends to be stressful, there are ways to control this and learn how to relax. This can be a way to prevent your blood pressure from going up.

Sometimes, signs of anemia can also be symptoms of high blood pressure. Anemia is a condition where your body isn't producing enough healthy red blood cells. Sometimes anemia will present itself through unusual fatigue, depression or even breathing problems. Medical tests are required to diagnose mild anemia. Your doctor can help you determine if any of these symptoms are from anemia or high blood pressure.

In general, high blood pressure or hypertension is one of the most serious health problems because it can be hard to identify in the early stages. Of course, if you take the time to get your blood pressure checked, it's very easy to find out if you have hypertension, but too many people neglect to do this. Whether or not you have the type of symptoms mentioned above, getting your blood pressure checked is a simple way to safeguard your health.
